Become a part of BOFF, the start of Brighton’s only free fringe festival, launching this year in May!
BOFF is the alternative to the mainstream Brighton Fringe. It follows the model of the PBH Free Fringe, the largest producer of shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It’s free for performers, free for audiences and free for venues. Making it more accessible, more authentic and most importantly more Brighton.
Taking place from the 1st to the 31st of May, we’re holding call-outs now to anyone who would like to become a part of the very first BOFF festival, because it’s early days, we’re starting small so places are limited and we’re operating on a first come first serve basis.
Looking to perform?
We’re looking for anyone interested in putting on a show whether it be theatre, stand up, clowning, magic, drag, burlesque, cabaret, poetry or puppetry. The show should be 50 minutes in length with no intermission. You can request your timeslot and a run of anywhere from 1 to 31 nights. You will also be allowed to take donations but they must not be mandatory.
Your show will automatically be promoted on our materials equally to all other BOFF performers. We’ll also do everything we can to assist you through the creative process, production and delivery of your show. We want everyone to succeed.
Currently BOFF is run by volunteers wanting to put on a show themselves, once you become a performer it’ll be run by you too. Meaning we expect everyone involved to lend a hand where possible.
You’ll be responsible for providing everything outside of basic lighting and PA setup for your show. We also will not permit any performer to be registered with the official Brighton Fringe.
If you’re interested in applying to become a performer please fill out this application form:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdUKURGBFEoAHaviLM0DGQLCVpvjPI3beU-RaZYpVXtddgFtA/viewform?usp=publish-editor
Looking to watch?
As an audience member you can come along free of charge to any of Boff’s shows, watch this space for more info on shows, times and location. Boff shows are free entry but as per the PBH model performers usually take donations at the end of the show, they get a 100% cut of all earnings.
Looking to host?
Boff aims to benefit venues through promotion, increasing foot traffic and drink/food sales. We’re super grateful for the places that give us space to make art and we aim to stay out of the venue’s way as much as possible, meaning we deal with set up, pack down and take responsibility for each show independently.
If you’re interested and you have space (no matter how unconventional it may be!) please get in touch with boff.fest@gmail.com we’d be happy to chat about the potential of having you on board this year or in years to come.
