Eostre Day featuring Shewolves/Unisex

31 March @ 2:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Celebrate Women’s History Month at Ironworks with two powerful, 5-star performances by Brighton-based female artists: She-Wolves (3pm and 7pm) and Unisex (5pm and 8.30pm)

On Ēostre Day, we’re honouring the goddess who gave her name to Easter. See both shows with a discounted double bill ticket and make a day of it with an art installation in the foyer lounge, springtime decorations, and drinks for purchase between shows.

Ēostre Day at Ironworks: She-Wolves (3pm and 7pm)

‘Marvellously dramatic dancer’ (New York Times) Laura Careless tells the stories of the forgotten female rulers of England who set the stage for Elizabeth I. Based on Helen Castor’s book/BBC series, “She-Wolves” is “an extraordinary experience and an essential watch for anyone wanting to rip the rug up from underneath patriarchy’s grip on history” (Wee Review). Movement, spoken word, animations, and song breathe new life into thrilling episodes and captivating personalities from the medieval and Tudor eras. Laura explores Britain’s historical relationships with gender and power, and seeks to reclaim “she-wolf” as an expression of personal rewilding . With choreography by UK National Dance Award winner and founder of Ballet Queer Jonathan Watkins, and animation by Brighton-based BBC Film Network Award winner Belle Mellor.

‘Radically relevant…If you are dithering about whether to go, you should.’ *****Broadway Baby

Ēostre Day at Ironworks: Unisex (5pm and 8.30pm)

Unisex is a one-woman show that explores shifting concepts of feminism through comic, unapologetic, and vigorous storytelling and original live music. Sweet and sour, funny and sad, Lea shares true stories from her life, unwrapping and questioning ideas about what makes a healthy, happy and balanced society.

This is not another feminist play… except it sort of is.

“Very, very funny… Groundbreaking work.” *****Fringe Review

This production was a part of the New Culture ConneX initiative and supported by Brighton & Hove Pride’s Cultural Development Programme in 2022.
