Helm Gallery Relaunches With New Collection Inspired By Medication, Care And Mental Health
Helm Gallery will relaunch as Brighton’s biggest and most animated lifestyle and art space on 29 May, with a free evening event showcasing new artists, sculptures, originals and limited editions across a range of styles and budgets.
Among the new works is Prescription Only, a striking collection by artist Lucy Delano, which transforms the private rituals of illness, care and daily medication into vivid, tactile works of art. Created by Delano as a cancer patient, the series enters into conversation with Damien Hirst’s iconic spot paintings and pharmaceutical references, but reworks that language through hand-crafted crochet, soft palettes and lived experience. Each spot is named after medication or supplements taken daily by the artist, with individual works titled after the 16 most commonly prescribed medications in the UK, reframing the medicine cabinet as a place of resilience, care and personal ownership.
The free relaunch party takes place at Helm Gallery, Brighton, on 29 May 2026 from 19:00–21:00, with free tickets available here.
A new collection launching at Helm Gallery in Brighton transforms the private rituals of illness, care and daily medication into vivid, tactile works of art. ‘Prescription Only’, by artist Lucy Delano, enters into conversation with Damien Hirst’s iconic spot paintings and his long-running exploration of pharmaceuticals, but reworks that visual language through a more intimate lens: soft palettes, hand-crafted crochet and the lived reality of daily medication.
Created by Delano as a cancer patient, the series moves medication out of the bathroom cabinet and into the gallery. Each spot is meticulously made by hand and named after medications and supplements taken daily by the artist, turning routine, dependency and survival into something intimate, colourful and collectible. Instead of leaning into the recreational pharmaceutical references often associated with pill-like art, ‘Prescription Only’ explores the quieter emotional weight of treatment. The individual works are titled after the 16 most commonly prescribed medications in the UK, reframing clinical names as objects of care, resilience and personal ownership.
The collection lands as mental health remains high on the national agenda, following Mental Health Awareness Week in May. Delano’s work asks how illness, medication and self-preservation can be spoken about more openly, without shame or sterility. With the invitation to “piece together your bespoke medicine cabinet or find your little daily helper amongst the individuals,” the collection encourages visitors to rethink the objects and routines usually kept behind closed doors.
The collection will be shown as part of Helm Gallery’s wider relaunch, as the space reopens as Brighton’s biggest and most animated lifestyle and art destination. Taking place on 29 May 2026, from 19:00–21:00, the free relaunch party will give guests the chance to discover new featured artists in person, alongside sculptures, originals and limited editions across a range of styles, tastes, spaces and budgets.
Known for making art feel more inclusive and accessible, Helm Gallery offers free entry and represents a mix of established and emerging names, from Banksy, Sir Peter Blake, Damien Hirst, Eric Stefanski and Margo from Margate to rising artists gaining attention across Brighton, London and beyond.
Those wanting to see ‘Prescription Only’ alongside Helm’s latest new works can attend the gallery’s free relaunch event on 29 May 2026, 19:00–21:00, at Helm Gallery, Brighton. Free tickets are available here.
