SUMMARY:Vivaldi The Four Seasons with the Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague in Hove
DESCRIPTION:The Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague brings Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons to All Saints Church\, Hove on Saturday 17 October 2026 at 7.30pm\, as part of the orchestra’s autumn 2026 tour of the United Kingdom. The concert is performed live by a chamber ensemble of the Prague-based orchestra\, with the young Czech violinist Matteo Hager as soloist. \nAll Saints Church on The Drive is Hove’s cathedral-scale parish church\, a soaring Gothic Revival building by John Loughborough Pearson with a resonant acoustic that has made it one of the best-loved concert venues in Brighton and Hove. It is a few minutes’ walk from Hove station and the seafront\, with buses along Church Road and Cromwell Road. \nThe programme\nAt the heart of the evening are Vivaldi’s four violin concertos – Spring\, Summer\, Autumn and Winter – the most popular set of pieces in the whole Baroque repertoire. Written in Venice around 1720 and published with four sonnets describing birdsong\, summer storms\, harvest celebrations and icy winter winds\, The Four Seasons remains one of the most vivid pieces of storytelling ever composed for strings. Hearing it played live\, with the soloist and ensemble responding to one another in the room\, is a very different experience from any recording. \nThe Four Seasons is framed by four other favourites of the string repertoire. Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik is the most famous serenade ever written\, all charm and sunlight. Bach’s Air on the G String\, from his Third Orchestral Suite\, is one of the calmest and most beautiful melodies in music. Pachelbel’s Canon in D needs no introduction\, and Handel’s Water Music\, written for a royal barge party on the Thames in 1717\, brings the evening to a festive close. \n\nAntonio Vivaldi – The Four Seasons\, Op. 8 Nos. 1–4\nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Eine kleine Nachtmusik\, K. 525\nJohann Sebastian Bach – Air on the G String (Orchestral Suite No. 3)\nJohann Pachelbel – Canon in D\nGeorge Frideric Handel – Water Music (suite)\n\nThe performers\nThe Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague (BSOP) is a professional orchestra from the Czech capital\, one of Europe’s great musical cities and home to a string tradition that runs from Dvořák and Smetana to the present day. Alongside its full symphonic concerts\, the orchestra tours internationally with chamber programmes drawn from its principal players\, bringing the warmth of the Czech string sound to churches\, cathedrals and concert halls across Europe. This UK tour visits Reading\, London\, Hove\, Eastbourne\, Newcastle\, Edinburgh\, Inverness and Glasgow. \nSoloist Matteo Hager is a young Czech violinist currently studying in London\, whose performances of The Four Seasons combine virtuoso brilliance in the fast movements with a singing\, expressive tone in the slow ones. \nTickets and practical information\nDate and time: Saturday 17 October 2026\, 7.30pm – 9.00pm (doors open 30 minutes before the concert)\nVenue: All Saints Church\, Hove\, The Drive\, Hove BN3 3QE\nTickets: from £24 (plus booking fee); priced seating tiers available\nRunning time: approximately 90 minutes including interval \nBook tickets online or telephone 07922 228511.
