DESCRIPTION:The Original Five play Brighton at The Brunswick on Sunday 6th September – this is bluegrass\, country and folk music from the south of Sweden. \nThe Original Five mixes traditional bluegrass with their own material\, more well-known\, crowd-pleasing country songs and musical excursions into both folk music and gospel. Their’s is a wide spectrum of musical experiences that are held together by the band’s solid bluegrass background. \nThe band started in 2010 as a Jam session at Far I Hatten in Folkets Park in Malmö\, Sweden\, but since then the music has taken them to festivals and gigs all over Europe and of course the homeland of bluegrass\, the USA. \nThey have five own studio albums and have enjoyed many collaborations with other musicians over the years\, e.g. a live album in collaboration with a Swiss chamber orchestra. \n“The band has a seasoned bluegrass sound with flavourful country\, hillbilly\, and Western Swing influences. Created for complete beginners\, you’ll learn in a relaxed\, supportive setting with live guidance\, demonstrations\, and personalised feedback to help you build strong foundations with confidence. \nDates: Friday evenings – 25th September & 2nd\, 9th and 16th October\nTime: 5:30-7:30pm\nLocation: Starling Studio\, 107 Havelock Rd\, Brighton BN1 6GL \nAcross 4 structured weeks\, we’ll move from the very basics to creating finished pieces you’ll be proud of. \nWeek 1\nWe begin by getting comfortable with the tools and materials. You’ll learn how to assemble your pen\, manage ink flow\, and see how small adjustments in posture and pressure can make a big difference. We’ll practise the foundational strokes of calligraphy and start turning them into clear\, confident lowercase and uppercase letters. This week is all about building strong\, supportive foundations. \nWeek 2\nWe move on to connecting letters and forming words\, while exploring the difference between baseline and bouncy calligraphy. The focus this week is on fluency and rhythm\, helping your lettering feel more natural and relaxed as you gain confidence. \nWeek 3\nWith the basics in place\, we’ll explore simple composition. You’ll practise putting phrases together thoughtfully and begin working towards a final project\, using your new skills in a calm and intentional way. \nWeek 4\nIn our final session\, we’ll bring everything together. We’ll explore beginner-friendly flourishing and create a set of cards decorated with small illustrated elements such as a wreath\, simple florals\, or other light details that complement your lettering. It’s a lovely way to celebrate how far you’ve come.
