Improv Show Celebrates Spontaneous Christmas

Monthly improv show Scoops will celebrate Christmas in style when it returns in December with a night of festive fun, all completely made up on the spot.

November’s show was a smash with the audience, who witnessed the opening act – Scoops regulars Ben, Simon & Ric – craft an impromptu comedy play set in a laundrette with a sentient and terrifying washing machine, which they eventually defeated with an army of crabs (of course). They were joined on the bill by Canterbury based troupe Plus Support, the very funny Simon Topping demonstrating impressive solo improv, and the debut live performance of Assimilate, a sci-fi themed improvisation duo that formed during lockdown.

The audience left with huge smiles on their faces, and no doubt many of them will return for more silliness in December – and because nothing’s scripted, they’ll get a totally new show!

Co-founder Simon Goodway said: “After being away for so long, this year’s Christmas show feels really special.

“We’ve been up and running for a couple of months now and it’s fantastic to be performing again. We’re really grateful that Scoops has been welcomed back so warmly.”

December’s show sees Ben, Simon & Ric return, as well as long-standing Brighton improv troupe Tiny Dynamite. The Staccatos are coming from London to entertain us with musical songs, and the evening will be rounded off with seasonal act Super Santa Christmas Cracker Tinsel Time, improvising silly scenes inspired by cracker jokes.

Even the performers don’t know what will happen, only that it’s sure to be another hilarious night!
