A TEAM GB athlete is missing after going fell running in Scotland while on holiday.
Chris Smith from Haywards Heath has not been seen for two days after setting out on a run from from Invervar near Aberfeldy, Perth and Kinross, at about 3pm on Tuesday.
The father-of-two had been aiming to summit Meall nan Aighean, Carn Mairg and Carn Gorm, a series of peaks in the area, before returning by 5pm.
But his family, including his wife Lindsay and two children, became concerned when he did not return and called emergency services.
A huge search operation is now under way as police, the Coastguard helicopter and rescue teams attempt to locate the 43-year-old.
His family have issued an appeal for help, asking anyone who may have information that could assist the search to contact the police.
Ruth McKee, Mr Smith’s cousin, said: “The whole family is so grateful for all the search-and-rescue team operations.
“We just want to make sure that no-one forgets Chris’s face.
“If you have seen anything in the area or anybody please contact Police Scotland.”
She said he is an experienced fell run, but shared concerns that he may have become disoriented and diverted from his planned route, travelling further afield by accident.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers in Perthshire and mountain rescue teams are carrying out searches in the Glenlyon area following a report of a missing 43-year-old man.
“Chris Smith was last seen at around 3pm on Tuesday.
“Emergency services are being assisted in the searches by the Coastguard helicopter.”

Mr Smith has represented Team GB in mountain running events, helping the squad win bronze at the European Mountain Running Championships in Arco, Italy.
He was also crowned England Mountain Running champion in 2017.
The runner is originally from Daviot in Aberdeenshire, but he now lives in Haywards Heath and is a member of Thames Valley Harriers athletics club.
